Steven Runciman has a real way of explaining events so that they make sense. The first book covers the First Crusade, the second one covers the Kingdom of Jerusalem from its establishment at the end of the First Crusade to its destruction just before the Third Crusade, and the final book covers the Third Crusade through the fall of the last of the Crusader states.
